Vermont Senator, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders postpones campaign events due to heart procedure

Vermont Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders postpones campaign events due to an heart procedure he underwent this week, according to reports.

The Democrat was treated for an artery blockage which is expected to sideline him from the campaign for a few days or perhaps longer.

Jeff Weaver, a senior Sanders adviser, said Sanders was “in good spirits” but canceled campaign events “until further notice” to rest and recoup from the surgery.

Some political observers say the issue could come to the fore due to Sanders age, 78, and health moving forward.

Sanders shifted conversation from concern about his situation to focus on  health-care in general, however.

“None of us know when a medical emergency might affect us. And no one should fear going bankrupt if it occurs. Medicare-for-all!” he tweeted, regarding his universal-health-care proposal.

Sanders will lose key time on the campaign trail however, with Mass. Senator Elizabeth Warren putting cash into her political coffers and also making strides in polling for the Democratic nomination.
