Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou arrived at a Vancouver courtroom along with her lawyers in order to press for the detailsâ disclosure surrounding her arrest on December 2018.
After arriving at the Vancouver airport on Monday morning, Wanzhouâs lawyers told the media they will request more disclosure about her detention, including contacts between Canadian and US officials.
Wanzhou’s lawyers said they will push for all of this at the Monday afternoonâs hearing before Justice Heather Holmes of the British Columbia Supreme Court.
Her defense team argues that she was unlawfully detained, searched and questioned by Canadian authorities for almost five hours after she landed on a flight from Hong Kong. She claims Canadian authorities collected evidence for US authorities under the ruse of an immigration check.
Wanzhou was detained at the request of the United States, where the CFO is charged with bank fraud and accused of misleading HSBC about Huaweiâs business in Iran. She has claimed to be innocent and is currently fighting extradition.
Her arrest has strained relations between the Chinese regime with both the Trump administration and the Canadian government.
