New York Knicks guard Dennis Smith Jr. denies Adidas paid him to play at NC State, according to a major media outlet.

Smith told school officials he didn’t know former Adidas consultant T.J. Gassnola, whom the NCAA has accused of providing $40,000 from Adidas to an ex-Wolfpack assistant coach who then allegedly funneled the money to the player’s family.

Smith also denied his family received any payments from the assistant, Orlando Early, or from then head coach Mark Gottfried, now leading Cal State Northridge.

The NCAA determined NC State committed four violations, including two of the Level 1 type, and also ruled Smith ineligible for the 2016-17 season.

Smith netted 13.6 points with 2.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season for the Knicks.

He was 2016-17 ACC freshman of the year for his terrific play that season.
