Eswatini Prime Minister Dies from COVID-19 Complications

Eswatini Prime Minister, Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini has died one month after contracting COVID-19.

“Their Majesties have commanded that I inform the nation of the sad and untimely passing away of His Excellency the Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini,” announced Eswatini Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku.

Dlamini was already admitted to the hospital more than two weeks after he announced on 16 November that he had tested positive but he felt well and was asymptomatic.

Before Dlamini died, he was transferred to South Africa on December 1, to stabilize his condition despite the government claiming he was stable and responding well to treatment.

Dlamini had been Prime Minister since November 2018 after he worked as the CEO of MTN Eswatini and worked in the banking sector for almost two decades.
