China Strikes Out at US After Report of New Visa Restrictions

China has accused critics in the US government of  â€œan escalation of political suppression” against Beijing due to the new visa restrictions of China’s ruling Communist Party along with their immediate family members.

The restrictions would be the latest measure taken against the leadership of China and its economy amid the debates over the coronavirus pandemic, human rights, trade, Taiwan, technology, along with other issues.

Diplomatic ties have hit a low point when the U.S. has ordered the closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston.

China demanded the US to vacate its consulate in the southwestern city of Chengdu as a response.

Chinese who make up the largest group of foreign students at American universities have made complaints regarding the stricter conditions for obtaining or extending visas.

Chinese academics have also experienced greater scrutiny, while dozens of journalists with state media have been forced to return home.
