Singapore Cruise Ship Passenger Now Tested Negative for Covid-19, After Retests


Singapore’s Ministry of Health has said that the passenger who tested positive for Covid-19 aboard Royal Caribbean’s cruise ship has now tested negative for the virus after his sample was retested. 

A second test was also conducted from the passenger’s fresh polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test sample and the result was also negative. 

This, after the Quantum of the Seas ship returned to port, one day early as the 83-year-old passenger reported symptoms of diarrhea. 

After he tested positive for the PCR test, the passenger was isolated and was brought to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. 

Contact tracing was conducted and all passengers who had come in contact with the patient has now tested negative for the virus. 

The ship which carried 1,680 passengers and 1,148 crew members all tested negative for the virus prior to boarding, as part of its health protocols, reported Ms. Annie Chang, director for cruise development at the Singapore Tourism Board.

The 83-year-old guest will undergo another test on Thursday for confirmation.
