The Spanish government announced on Friday morning that it will accept a negative COVID-19 test from air travelers arriving in Spain, as well as the PCR test, from Saturday afternoon.
âThese measures will be effective from tomorrow afternoon, after determining that the COVID-19 situation is getting controlled. Moreover, we can say that everyone who wants to come to Spain can feel safe,â Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa said during a press conference in Madrid.
According to a La Vanguardia report, these two tests have been chosen by the Health Ministry as requirements for entry into Spain given that they directly detect the COVID-19, and as such diagnose an active infection. The newspaper also pointed out that the Spanish government ruled out antigen tests, which are cheaper and faster, as health authorities determined these can sometimes pick up past infections.
As well as exempting children aged under six from the need to present a negative COVID-19 test on arrival in Spain, Illa also announced that test results can be presented in French or German, as well as in English and Spanish.
