Congress Certifies Biden’s Victory a Day after the Capitol Insurrection

The Joint US Congress ratified President-elect Joe Biden’s victory after pro-Trump rioters stormed Capitol to delay the electoral vote-counting process.

The process had been interrupted for several hours after the pro-Trump insurrectionists managed to break inside the Capitol but resumed late into the night.

Congress sealed  Biden’s victory after overturning expected objections to the country’s 3 November election raised by some Republicans.

Vice President Mike Pence closed out the proceedings after yesterday’s insurrection and announced the tally of the 538 votes from the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

According to the tally, Biden won with 306 electoral votes to President Donald Trump’s 232.

Trump issued a statement that he would commit to an orderly transition of power despite claiming votes were stolen in his speech to the Capitol rioters.

Both chambers resumed the debate to complete the certification process of Biden’s Electoral College win which is also expected to be announced soon.
