Iran Issues Interpol Arrest Notice for 48 U.S. Officials, Including Trump

Iran issued a “red notice” request for the arrest of U.S. President Donald Trump and 47 other American officials over their involvement in the assassination of major general Qasem Soleimani last year, a judiciary official announced in a press release on Tuesday.

“The request to issue ‘Red Notice’ for 48 people involved in the assassination of Martyr Soleimani, including the US President, as well as commanders and officials at the Pentagon and forces in the region, were handed over to Interpol,” Iranian Judiciary Spokesman Gholam Hossein Esmaeili said on Tuesday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is very seriously following up on pursuing and punishing those who ordered and executed this crime,” Esmaeili added.

Soleimani was an Iranian major general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who was also known as the “shadow commander” of the Quds Force since 1998.

He is also the mastermind behind the military operations in Iraq and Syria.

Soleimani was killed in a U.S. airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport on Jan. 3, 2020. The assassination was authorized by Trump, intensifying the long-brewing hostility between Iran and the United States.

In an interview last year, Pentagon officials said Soleimani and the elite unit he handled were “responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American and coalition service members and the wounding of thousands more.”

It was the second Interpol request of Iran for an international arrest warrant for Trump and other officials from the Pentagon and the U.S. Central Command.
