UAE Announces Travel, Trade with Qatar to Resume Within a Week

UAE has announced that Arab states forming the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) could resume travel and trade ties with Qatar within a week, in a virtual press briefing on Thursday.

“We want to do this sooner rather than later,” said UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash.

However, re-establishing diplomatic ties are yet to be taken up as this will need more time.

The minister said, “We reiterate the GCC is more successful in its collective common market, rather than politically. So yes, it will take confidence-building. But we are turning a page on the crisis and starting on a positive note to build trust.”

The GCC has finally agreed to end its more than three-year blockade against Doha, following the recently concluded 41st GCC Summit held in Saudi on Tuesday.

During the summit, Arab leaders signed the Al-Ula agreement which emphasized ‘solidarity and stability’ in the region.
