Hurricane Dorian death toll at 5, including 7-year-old boy

Hurricane Dorian’s death toll stands at 5, including a 7-year-old boy, Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said during a press conference Monday.

Any information about the other four deceased, including their identities, isn’t yet known.

“We are going to be very careful about reporting such information,” Minnis said. “It should only come from the official channels and be verified by the Royal Bahama Police Force.”

Five serious injuries have also been reported due to the storm, and 21 are hurt in all, he added.

The Abaco Islands have been particularly hard-hit, and Minnis said police and rescue workers will be sent there to assess damage.

Strong winds and waves are hitting Florida’s east coast as Dorian slowly makes it way there, according to reports.

Evacuations are underway and flights have been canceled as many of the state’s residents hunker down for the possible damage ahead in the next few days.
