NewsRum Editorial Guidelines & Standards

Version 1.0 | Last Updated: February 11, 2026

1. Our Mission

NewsRum.com exists to cut through the digital noise. We are dedicated to providing timely, accurate, and “wholesome” news coverage. Our goal is to inform our readers about the future of technology, the passion of sports, and the positive stories that often go untold.

2. AI Ethics & Usage Policy

NewsRum embraces Artificial Intelligence as a tool for efficiency, not a replacement for journalism.

  • The “Human-in-the-Loop” Rule: No content is published automatically. Every article drafted with AI assistance must be reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by a human editor.

  • Transparency: We label content significantly assisted by AI.

  • No Deepfakes: We strictly prohibit the creation or dissemination of misleading synthetic media (deepfakes). Any AI-generated imagery must be clearly labeled as such, in compliance with the India IT Rules 2026.

3. Verification & Fact-Checking

Credibility is our currency. All contributors must adhere to the following:

  • Primary Sources First: Link to the original study, the official press release, or the player’s direct social media post. Do not cite other “rumor” blogs as fact.

  • The “Two-Source” Rule: For controversial news or transfer rumors, try to verify the information with at least two independent sources.

  • Labeling Speculation: In our Sports section, rumors must be clearly identified with phrases like “Reports suggest…” or “According to leaked sources…” Never present a rumor as a confirmed event.

4. Tone of Voice

Our voice changes slightly depending on the category, but our values remain the same.

A. Technology & AI

  • Tone: authoritative, forward-thinking, and accessible.

  • Guideline: Avoid jargon where simple words work. Explain why an update matters, don’t just list the specs.

  • Bad: “The LLM utilizes a transformer architecture.”

  • Good: “This new AI model uses a ‘transformer’ method, meaning it can understand context better than before.”

B. Sports (Cricket & Football)

  • Tone: Passionate, energetic, but fair.

  • Guideline: Capture the emotion of the match. Criticism of players is allowed but must be professional—never abusive or personal.

C. Wholesome News

  • Tone: Uplifting, sincere, and solution-oriented.

  • Guideline: Focus on the impact. If a local hero saves a park, focus on how the community benefits. Avoid clickbait titles that promise more than the story delivers.

5. Sourcing & Attribution

  • Hyperlinks: Always hyperlink the first mention of a study, company, or person you are quoting.

  • Image Credits: Never use images from Google Images without permission. Use:

    • Official Press Kits (Sony, Apple, BCCI, Premier League).

    • Creative Commons (Unsplash, Pexels).

    • Your own AI-generated images (properly labeled).

6. Corrections Policy

We are human, and errors happen. When they do, we own them.

  • Minor Errors: (Typos, wrong dates) Fix immediately.

  • Major Errors: (Misquoting someone, getting a score wrong) Fix the error and add a Correction Note at the bottom of the article:

    • Correction: An earlier version of this article stated X. It has been updated to reflect Y.

7. Plagiarism

NewsRum has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism.

  • Any contributor found copying text directly from another outlet without attribution will be permanently banned.

  • “Spinning” articles (using AI to rewrite a competitor’s article entirely) is also prohibited. Bring your own angle to every story.
