NEW DELHI — Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2026 on Monday at the DGNCC Camp, marking the commencement of the annual gathering that showcases the discipline and cultural diversity of India’s youth.
Addressing the cadets, the Vice-President emphasized the critical role the NCC plays in shaping the country’s future leadership as India approaches its centenary of independence. Now in its 78th year, the NCC stands as the world’s largest uniformed youth organization.

Modernization and Technology
A significant focus of this year’s address was the evolution of NCC training methodologies to match contemporary security challenges. The Vice-President noted the organization’s pivot toward technology, specifically the introduction of cyber and drone training modules and the establishment of a Remote Pilot Training Academy.
During his visit, Radhakrishnan inspected exhibition stalls detailing these new initiatives, including the YUVA Aapda Mitra Scheme, which focuses on disaster preparedness.

Service and Nation Building
The Vice-President highlighted the operational contributions of the cadets beyond ceremonial duties. He cited “Operation Sindoor,” where nearly 72,000 cadets volunteered for civil defense, as well as their relief efforts during the Wayanad floods in Kerala.
Radhakrishnan stated that the camp reflects constitutional values by bringing together cadets from diverse states and Union Territories to train as a cohesive unit.
“The journey towards a developed India rests on the creation of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat powered by skilled, disciplined and service-oriented youth,” said Radhakrishnan.
The event was attended by Director General NCC, Lt Gen Virendra Vats, alongside senior officials. The camp will culminate with the Prime Minister’s Rally later this month.
